TEMA Engineering completed the refurbishment, strengthening and painting of the bridge commencing in August 2003. The specification was for a full grit blast to SA2.5 followed on by applying a highways approved specification to the structure.
The work was undertaken from scaffolding on floating pontoons to enable the pontoons to be moved quickly to allow other river traffic to pass without delay. The bridge was a listed structure with riveted connections.
